Trading one asshole for another

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil,
is for good men to do nothing"

We live in a cynical world. There are different type of societies in this cynical world. There are different types of people in those cynical societies. And most are just assholes. I have forever believed that there is more good in this world than evil. That no matter how long evil rules, it is the good that wins. But then something strange started happening..... I started growing up.... started getting more mature. Today, perhaps I am a lot more mature than when I first started college. Then maybe I was a lot mature than when I started high school. But this concept lay firm in my mind. In good Vs. evil, good shall always win.

Then Sept 11 happened. I did not realise it then (as many others with me also), that it would in one way or the other impact my life. It didn't then and soon we were swept into the world of 'War against terror'. I cheered with the world when Taliban fell. I hated them. They were a shining example of what all was wrong with the world. Not just Islam, but also the human mind. As a citizen of this world I genuinely felt happy for Afghanistan as now it got a chance to rebuild itself and all those poor people who had suffered for so long, finally got a chance to live again. I also felt happy for America, its revenge had been lethal and effective. So they didn't manage to capture Osama, but they did manage to reverse the grim future of an entire country !

Then Godhra happened. For the first time in my life I actually realised the extend of hypocrisy of the adult world. The world I was now entering. The double standards of us Indians and the very hollow nature of India itself. Godhra didn't physically affect me. But mentally it did, after a couple of months. I couldn't believe how a person (Narendra Modi) would be allowed to live (let alone stay Chief Minister) after being responsible for the brutal murder of thousands of people. Indians raped Indians. Indians looted Indians. Indians killed Indians. And all the while Narendra Modi gave hate speeches. Telling Hindus to kill Muslims. Dividing Gujrat on communal lines. He succeeded. He got away free. The victims never got justice. Best Bakery case etc etc. all became a media game. India stood shamed, but its citizens didn't bother to see. In a billion people, who has the time.

Recently, Saddam Hussain was executed. Rather, he was murdered. In the same way that we see those terrorists kill innocent people in those grainy videos. Not that he was innocent. Nopes. Probably deserved to die for his deeds, but the manner in which he was killed, he seemed like the bigger person. In a dark dingy room, where the guards are too scared to even show their faces on camera, where un-ruly officials mock and jeer an old, broken man. He is hanged to the shouts of a militants name. Legally, Saddam Hussain was still the President of Iraq. By international laws, if a person is removed by force by his/her own people, in his/her own country, then he/she is considered 'deposed'. Didn't so happen in this case. Americans came, they saw, they made a mess of things, and they continue doing that. I couldn't help but feel sorry for the poor hag. In a country which was invaded on the pretext of 'democracy' and 'war against terrorism', I saw America and the 'puppet' Iraqi Government act like terrorists while a former dictator became a helpless victim. The trail may not be a farce, but it was far from conclusive. There was and still remains no credibility. Ladies and Gentlemen, thanks for watching 'The Trial and Execution of Saddam Hussian', the biggest staged production of 2006.

Saddam Hussein

(28th April 1937 - 30th December 2006)

Bush they say had been sleeping at the time. I say he's been sleeping for 6 years now and has just forced us all to be a part of his nightmare. We just traded Saddam Hussain and his evil ways for Bushussain and his harmfully dumb ways. Jackass.

So, two days before the New Year, a whole bunch of people molested a girl at the Gateway of India while thousands stood by watching and doing nothing. They tore her clothes and tried to steal her phone all the while she cried for help and her male companion tried to protect her. But no help came. According to The Times of India, there were upto 70 guys trying to grope the girl. Thats a huge figure. And even if it was half of that, I feel ashamed. As I said earlier, India is hollow. Its people are dead. How great is the mob mentality here? and all for the wrong things? All those people standing by could decide to join in the molest fest but not even one found the courage to try to stop it? Is this the India I live in? I didn't think so... and I don't want a rude surprise now! But I feel it is in our nature to be scared and hippo-critical. I've been reading 'The Last Mughal' and so much that happened in 1857 Delhi is similar to whats happening in India now. Indians raped, looted, murdered Indians then and Indians rape, loot and murder Indians now. We don't need external enemies. We have ourselves.

But I do see a ray of hope. A tiny light that tells me to hold on. Me, my friends and others like us. Our generation and the ones after us. We can change this sad state of affairs. Everyone around has so much potential. Lets do something dammit. The oldies have come and gone. The population will keep exploding, but if the general people are led in the right direction by the right people, the society as a whole can evolve. We have no leaders today. Nobody who is without blame. No statesman to lead us. No chief to inspire us. We stroll along the highway of the world all the while other countries rush past us. People need to believe that we can be to the world tomorrow what America is to them today. There needs to be someone who can push for that and lead us all to that. To keep our faiths strong. To not let our resolve waiver.

Mr. Manmohan Singh is a good economist, a decent politician. But not the leader of Alexanderic proportions that we need. Its time for that leader to stand up. Will it be you? or me? Lets decide already, cause there are a lot more blood thirsty Narendra Modis out there eyeing that chair.

Indian Lucifer, thanks dude but being decendents of animals doesn't give us the right to behave like them still ! :-p

Gaurav, Thanks for reading all that and taking the time out to write something in response. I appreciate it but at this point Let me set two things straight here :

a) I'm am NOT relying on 'hearsay'
b) I DONOT post anything without proper knowledge of the matter

That said let me please also tell you that I myself am a part of the entertainment industry (also media) and therefore and aware of the truth from the friction. I know what has been sensationalised and what is true. Also, History is my hobby and needless to say, all that I have written is derived from the understanding of the various records and papers not only of foreign origin but also Indian. I also have no reason to lie.

Ok. So... please let me address all your statements point by point.
Now... It is true, I have never have had the opportunity to talk to a Gujarati about the 2002 riots and this will be a first. But that doesn't mean that the people outside of Gujrat don't know the truth or the facts. Next, I don't gulp down any spicy reports from the media... like I said before, being a part of the industry, I can tell the lie from the truth. Its just so much easier to blame the media for everything. Though they are creating a lot of fuss about a lot of dumb things lately... I don't think the media can be blamed of 'sensationalizing' the 2002 riots! They were gruesome enough by themselves. I donot oppose you on your saying that the Muslims of Godhra voted for the BJP in the Municiple elections. Its quite possible. But what does that tell us? What are you trying to imply? The riots didn't happen? The BJP isn't to blame? What? I also know that a lot of hindus died in the Police firing to Quell the rioters... but what does that tell us? It means that the majority of mobs were Hindu... the majority of the rioters were Hindu... led by leaders of the Gujrat government. A few of Muslims also died in Police firing... there were Muslim mobs as well! Therefore when I say thousands died... I take into account all Indian lives... Hindus and Muslims... My objective wasn't to blame the Hindu community... but rather the government, the leadership and the total and absolute break-down of the law and order situation for the first 3 days and 3 nights! Do you know that some of the better co-ordinated and led Hindus mobs actually had municipal records pointing out the houses, shops and properties of muslims in various areas. That the attcaks were extremely co-ordinated and planned. That Police officials refused to help the victims (hindus and muslims) and decided instead to just stand by?!?! The army wasn't allowed to come in to contain the situation... and PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T TELL ME THAT THERE WERE NO RAPES !!!!!! There were GANG-RAPES of both Hindu and Muslim women by mobs! And murders! It is evident from huge number of reports, central government, NGO's, foreign observers and even the Gujarat government report.

Gujaratis may not be animals as Islamic terrorists... they may be proud and self respecting but these things did happen Gaurav... and just by being proud and self-respecting they CANNOT be denied !! Godhra will forever remain a black spot on the image and pride of not only Gujrat but also India.

I'm happy to know that the culture of Gujrat is such that women are much safer than even here in Delhi. And should be... the situation in Delhi is horrible... You won't believe the kind of horny people that live here!!

All said and done I hope that you will make more of an effort to come to terms with the horror of the 2002 riots and accept that in that one horrific case... the people of Gujarat lost to evil and fanatism. I personally blame Narendra Modi... He had the power to stop but din't... and even after the dark days, he continued to incite communal dis-harmony between Hindus and Muslims. And you can't blame the media for 'his' actions atleast!!

Anyhow... I don't know where AMDAVAD is... is that short for Ahmedabad? Well... thanks once again for taking the time out to write here... hope to hear your point of view more often!

Yeah i think the whole saddam thing was a cock up of epic proportions, i still maintain that bush is a damn war criminal.
I didn't hear about that thing at gateway to india but reading about it now, it just makes me sick, man we really have a long way to go before we can approach anything even remotley close to being civilised.
I appreciate the fact that you can still maintain some hope in this whole situation, i find it very hard.

Hi Ainz
Long time since I saw ur exceptionally detailed and dedicated blogs...looks like I’m pretty late…feb7...huh...oh well... I must say that the 'murder' of Saddam Hussain really made me very uncomfortable... I mean he was the KING of his country no matter how brutal he was or a tyrant… I think no matter wat he did...he didn't deserve to die in this way…by the hands [indirectly] of an external virus (so called world police…US…surprise surprise!)…Everyone knows why Bush did what he did!..

And as far as the 'gate of india' incident...the news spread like wildfire here in New Zealand in the Indian Community... i must admit although i feel guilty of not staying in my own country and doin some thing for it...situations like these makes me want to believe that i'm better off in a foreign land like New Zealand that has given me more freedom and opportunities as a woman than i ever could imagine in my own country...but my resolve to do something for my own country after I am stable enuf is just gettin stronger thru these barbarisms against Indian women...eek...i have to admit ur article sent shivers down my spine [not a good shiver but a creepy and disgusting one]...nicely written…it provoked a lot of emotions out of me…

I think its been proven quite a while ago about what every other nation and race knows this very peculiar thing about Indians which u have many times stated in ur article….Indians hate Indians…I’ll let u in on a secret…I faced some about of racialism even in Delhi just becoz I looked different…no matter how much I was inclined to my indian customs…I remember this particular moment when I used to sing classical Ragas and Bhajans in AIR FM…I was pleasantly given the first go to sing as they expected me to screw it up…and waddya know the others stuffed their compositions up and my composition was the only one to air from this program that day…I eventually got more invitations to sing and the rest who didn’t expect me to go thru were turned down… I know this incident’s impressions are highly subjective but I really can’t explain the vibe I felt over there…but I felt IT…this was a long time ago when I was like 14…I can’t seem to forget their lack of faith in me just becoz I looked different… no matter how staunchly I was and I still am a Hindu…I am still typecasted as something else…so from my first hand experience I can vouch that discrimination of all sorts exist and is practiced profusely in India…actually forget Indians in India…I think I face more discrimination from Indians here! I am readily accepted by all and every other group/culture than my very own...whenever I go to a temple or a shop owned by Indians…I get mixed reactions…if I open my mouth and talk in Hindi some most people are surpised and some shocked…mind u these so called indians haven’t seen the likes of people like me as they are NZ born or FIJI born …their mental picture of an Indian is a dark skinny caricature…there!...even I am discriminating…but I can’t help it…its like I’m reacting to an action I have no control of!....that’s is why although I have strong Indian beliefs I am only able to make more non-indian friends…[not that I don’t have indian friends]and trust me everyone, Kiwis, Koreans, Japs, Mexicans, Chinese, Latinos, Americans here know and humour this Indian-hate-Indian syndrome.
but but but….thats not the case with everyone I have my fellow indian friends who are so ever supportive of me…but I just thot to mention it and let u knw that for a person such as myself who knows more of the northern Indian culture than my [supposedly]own eastern Indian one, I too have felt the ripples of this discriminatory wave…I know our country has very different and unique cultures but there lies the challenge and task…to make our country truly united even with these many diversities of religion and cultures….
I’ve heard from my cousin who studies in DU at the moment that there are lot of eastern Indians in Delhi now and everyone is in separate groups… ppl don’t mix with other people…there are like tight knit groups of pre defined sects…I hope my cousin is just exaggerating becoz if its truly the case then its really sad …From an international perspective I am very exasperated with the impressions foreigners have of our country…and I can tell u this, its not very good.
As far as that Gaurav Gujarati who was all offensive, all proud of his Guju heritage and ALL Hindu on you…allow me to give a piece of my mind…Gaurav…I implore you to refrain yourself from your “come here n see” monologing... trust me I’ve been to Gujarat myself…it’s a beautiful place…but in terms of security of women there its not very different from anywhere else in India and I’ve been to a lot of places…then again I cud b wrong… I’m talkin about my Gujarat visit in 2002…things cud have changed but I doubt it if it wud have changed for the better. AND why don’t you COME OUTSIDE OF INDIA AND GET HANDS ON IMPRESSION OF WHAT MOST THE WORLD THINKS OF US?...I guarantee it’ll be a eye opener for you… I hope that u’ll be humbled by ur experience. Its wise to look and as you said boasting about something “WITHOUT PROPER AND PERFECT KNOWLEDGE OF THE SUBJECT IS NOT A CIVILIZED ACT”…your clearly went off on a tangent when Ainz was talking about the politically incorrect people who are confusing Indians to go against eachother .You so audaciously turned the topic to a broad racial-blame blog…not only that…u even tried to dissect gujus from the entire Indian impression that Ainz so neutrally tried to portray…well I’m not so neutral so BITE me!…and ur comment doesn’t surprise me…I’ll tell you why… allow me to pour a little more information since we’ve already long crossed the context of this blog…and let me tell you something about GUJUs especially that live outside India …they are surprisingly arrogant and don’t like to be called INDIANS but only GUJUs… I am not a believer of rumours but I witnessed this example of arrogance in an almost empty temple were there was this nice and quiet old Sri lankan lady sitting at the back…she was just humming some chants when a gujurati pandit came and said “CHUP KAR!...cant u see we are going to start our puja ?”..I was truly revolted by this man who spoke to this lady with such cruelty and false authority …NOW I AM NOT POINTING FINGERS…I’ll let my experiences do the talking…

God help us!

Hey Andi... Thanks for taking the time out to write back in such detail...

I'm sorry to hear about your racial experiences here in Delhi but I can't say that I'm suprised... We (Indians) are racist people Andi... and the worst part is that many among us really don't know when we are being racist.... we are defined by our skin colour.... the area to which we belong (north, south, east or west) and the shape of our eyes. Trust me... for all the pride that we take in our 'Indianess'... we are a shallow bunch of people... People from the north east are facing and have been facing discrimination for a looong time and it is one of the bigger but overly ignorned problems that India is facing... Let me tell you this that more than Kashmir... more than Pakistan... our faliure to embrace the eastern part of our country is going to cost us dearly in the future.

It was nice to hear bout your sweet FM revenge... I would've loved to see the shocked looks on their previously smug faces !! ;-)

And I agree with you 100%... I keep critising a lot here but i've also decided... you know... get stable... get money... influence and power... and then do something about it...

As for groupism... we I havn't seen it first hand but its quite possible... Tanmay tells me often how the local boys in Banglore hate the people from the north !!! So... you know... its everywhere...

As for Gaurav Gujarati... he never came back... but for me he does represent the closed mindset of the majority of the population.... so full of themselves.... so un-willing to stand up for whats right.... sad...

Anyhow... you should write more you know... you write well and write for whats right... we gotta do our part... even if one other person reads and gets thinking... thats a difference we've made !!! ;-)

Cheers !!
